William G. Hicks
Dr. Hicks' love for animals started as a child growing up as a cattle farmer in Darlington, WI. He attended UW Madison for his undergraduate degree and then moved on to Iowa State to attend veterinary school. He graduated from Iowa State in 1960 and moved to Edgerton, WI where he started his own clinic in 1962. He served primarily as a cattle vet for his first twenty years in practice. His interests began to shift more and more to small animals out of his Edgerton Clinic. In 1973, he moved to Janesville where he founded the Janesville Veterinary Clinic. As the client load increased, the need for additional facilities became apparent and in 1987 Animal Hospital Pet Clinic was started to better serve the clients on the west side of Janesville.
Along with his work in Rock County, Dr. Hicks founded a clinic in the Cayman Islands bringing veterinary service to an area where it had not previously existed. The clinic has flourished and uses the services of 26 veterinarians who each work two weeks a year to provide year round veterinary services. Dr. Hicks then spread his Caribbean interestes to the islands of Turks and Caicos where he set up a new clinic. Dr. Hicks will usually be seen with his trusty sidekick, Oprah, and his cat, Jordan, can be seen sneaking around the neighborhood after he tiptoes out of the house. He enjoys spending time camping with his grandchildren and his great-grandson.
Michael J. Hotchkiss
Dr. Mike was born in Milwaukee, WI but spent the bulk of his childhood growing up in East Troy. He has early connections to Janesville though as his very first job was delivering the Janesville Gazette. Dr. Mike graduated with a bachelor's degree from UW-La Crosse in 1997. He then attended the UW Madison's School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2002. "Dr. Mike" started with us while he was a vet student in 2000 and has been here ever since. In addition to caring for dogs and cats he also enjoys working with exotic pets like birds, ferrets, reptiles, etc. Dr. Mike is also our resident ultrasonagrapher.
When he is not at the clinic he is home with his wife Sarah, daughter Sydney and son Owen. He also has two cats (Charlie and Milo) to keep things fun and interesting in the house. In his free time he enjoys a good poker game, playing sports and wasting time on the computer.
Mary A. Baldwin
Dr. Mary (as she is known around the clinic) was born in Friendship, WI and was raised in Adams and Alma, WI. She obtained her undergraduate degree from UW River Falls in 1983 and graduated from UW Madison's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is working up the complicated medicine cases to reach a diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan. She uses her free time to tend to her garden and three furry friends (Woodsey, Duncan and Skye). Once she gets the cabbage planted and the animals fed, she likes to dig her nose into a good book.
